For this short film–made as an Animation assignment with Gabe Barcia-Colombo as our instructor– my partner Katie Takacs and I decided to play with the Mexican ‘papel picado’ (cutout paper) aesthetics with a very simple story of two hummingbirds (colibríes) that are static in a decorating piece of paper until a third hummingbird, which we choose to be orange to signify change, barges into their static environment and injects them with life.
Materials, tools and tech used
Laser-cut colored paper; Canon 5D; DragonFrame; Adobe Premiere
Shared credit
I designed the pieces and along with partner Katie Takacs we shot the scenes. Katie laser cut the pieces and edited the video in Premiere.
